Contact form
If you use the contact form on this site, we collect the name, email address, and message you submit. This information is used only to respond to your inquiry and is not sold or shared with third parties, aside from the email delivery service we use to send and receive that mail.
Analytics
We use Rybbit, a privacy-focused analytics tool, to understand aggregate site traffic (pages visited, general location, device type). It does not use tracking cookies to build an individual profile of you across other websites.
Comments
Comments are closed sitewide. Where comments have been left on older posts, we collect the data shown in the comment form along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to check if you use it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After a comment is approved, your profile picture is visible to the public alongside your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Cookies
If you visit our login page, we set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we also set cookies to save your login information and screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen option cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me,” your login persists for two weeks. Logging out removes the login cookies.
Embedded content from other websites
Pages on this site may link to or embed content from other websites (for example, archived discussion threads or market-data pages). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if you had visited that other website directly, and that site’s own privacy policy applies to any data it collects.
Who we share your data with
We do not sell visitor data. Data is shared only with the service providers needed to run the site: our email delivery provider (contact form messages) and our hosting/security providers (server logs, spam and abuse protection). If you request a password reset as a site user, your IP address is included in the reset email.
How long we retain your data
Contact form submissions are kept only as long as needed to handle your inquiry. Comment data on older posts is retained so we can recognize follow-up comments instead of holding them in a moderation queue. Registered users’ profile information is stored for as long as the account exists; users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except their username).
What rights you have over your data
If you have submitted the contact form, have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request an exported copy of the personal data we hold about you, or request that we erase it. Email [email protected] to make a request. This does not cover data we’re required to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where your data is sent
Visitor comments and contact form submissions may be checked through automated spam-detection services before reaching us.
